Softball Game Preview: Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees vs. Maypearl Panthers

The Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees will face off against the Maypearl Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Stephenville is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Stephenville managed to slip by China Spring the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Stephenville lost 12-4 to China Spring on Tuesday.

Meg McGregor was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Reese Haggard was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Maypearl fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Glen Rose on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-7 to the Tigers.

Bailey Short made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three RBI, and one stolen base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elaine Lopez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Maypearl lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Stephenville's loss dropped their record down to 10-7-1. As for Maypearl, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5-2.

Everything went Stephenville's way against Maypearl when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Stephenville made off with an 11-0 victory. Will Stephenville repeat their success, or does Maypearl have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
