Soccer Game Preview: Dawson vs. Sam Rayburn

Dawson is 0-3 against Sam Rayburn since January of 2015 but things could change on Saturday. The Dawson Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Sam Rayburn Texans at 12:00 p.m. Dawson's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Wednesday, neither Dawson nor South Houston could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw. That draw made it three straight for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Sam Rayburn hadn't done well against Manvel recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Sam Rayburn's defense stepped up to hand Manvel a 2-0 shutout. Given the Texans' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Mavericks are ranked 585th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win made it two in a row for Sam Rayburn and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Dawson's draw gives them a new season record of 2-5-5.

Dawson suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to Sam Rayburn in their previous matchup back in February of 2016. Can Dawson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
