Basketball Recap: Chaparral Piles Up the Points Against Douglas County

Chaparral won the last time they faced Douglas County and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Chaparral Wolverines blew past the Douglas County Huskies, posting a 65-37 victory. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Huskies are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chaparral was led to victory by Lauren Thompson and Salem Sherman. Thompson went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points along with eight boards and eight steals, while Sherman went 8 for 10 on her way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Sherman a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Monroe, who posted ten points and three steals.

Chaparral was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Douglas County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Megan Thorne scored 11 points and three blocks.

Chaparral's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 10-7. As for Douglas County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chaparral will host Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Douglas County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mountain Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 72.1 points per game this season.
