Basketball Game Preview: Carver Vo-Tech Bears vs. Guilford Park Panther

Having just played yesterday, the Carver Vo-Tech Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Guilford Park Panther at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carver Vo-Tech has four straight victories, Guilford Park has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Carver Vo-Tech is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Coppin Academy, posting a 72-20 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 222nd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carver Vo-Tech relied on the efforts of Tyjuan Savage, who posted ten points along with five rebounds and five steals, and David Ross, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Savage has become a key player for Carver Vo-Tech: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Matthews, who had seven points and four steals.

Carver Vo-Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Guilford Park came up short against Centennial on Monday and fell 65-55.

Carver Vo-Tech has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Guilford Park, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
