Softball Recap: Borden Sets Scoring Season-High Against New Washington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Borden). They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the New Washington Mustangs on Wednesday. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

Emma Hart made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Borden let Alayna Martin and AJ Mallard run wild. Martin went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Mallard went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Mallard has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Reagan Loy, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Borden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .613. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Borden is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for New Washington, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Borden will head out to challenge Orleans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Braves surely won't give up without a fight. As for New Washington, they will take on Charlestown at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
