Preview: Mooresville Pioneers vs. Roncalli Royals
The Mooresville Pioneers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Roncalli Royals at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Mooresville never let their opponents score. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over Indianapolis Washington. Given Mooresville's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Indianapolis Washington is ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mooresville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christopher Korthuis, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Korthuis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Hogan Denny was another key contributor, throwing for 49 yards and three touchdowns.
Roncalli can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Indianapolis Shortridge 42-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Roncalli, who have now won three matchups by 23 points or more so far this season.
Roncalli can attribute much of their success to Henry Adams, who rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Dozier, who rushed for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Mooresville to 5-5 and Roncalli to 4-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Mooresville has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 380.3 total yards per game. It's a different story for Roncalli, though, as they've been averaging only 211.6 per game. Will Mooresville be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Roncalli flip the ?
Mooresville was taken down by Roncalli 42-14 in their previous meeting back in November of 2020. Thankfully for Mooresville, Baron Huebler (who rushed for 306 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
