Baseball Recap: Chatfield Gets the Win

Chatfield proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 11) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Ralston Valley Mustangs 10-9. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.

Chatfield got a great performance from Evan Novotny as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Novotny has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chatfield let Brady Harman and Brody Logan run wild. Harman went 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI, while Logan went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Chatfield is 7-2 when Logan posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colton Taylor, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Chatfield's record is now 12-8. As for Ralston Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-6.

Chatfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
