Softball Recap: Plainfield Central Comes Up Short

Plainfield Central came into this matchup off a tough 18-run defeat on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Joliet West Tigers by a score of 5-3 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since May 15, 2024.

Jamie Crawford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emma Sommerfeld made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Ava Zitello was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Plainfield Central and nudges their season record down to 16-14-1. As for Joliet West, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-21 record this season.
