Softball Recap: Dowagiac's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Dowagiac strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on the Buchanan Bucks with a sharp 15-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chieftains, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Bree Campbell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up six earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marlie Carpenter, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with seven RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Claire Hess was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Dowagiac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Dowagiac pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Buchanan, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Dowagiac will face off against Sturgis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Buchanan, they will host Schoolcraft at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.75 runs per game on average), something the Bucks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
