Basketball Recap: Port Charlotte Pirates vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Port Charlotte couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the St. Petersburg Green Devils by a score of 70-67 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pirates have suffered since December 4, 2024.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marcus Nestor, who went 5-for-10 en route to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallas Lambert, who posted 12 points and three steals.
St. Petersburg found their leader in freshman Nijaun Harris, who went 9-for-21 to rack up 28 points. What's more, Harris also posted a 44% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Zach Davis was another key player, going 5-for-7 on his way to 10 points and eight rebounds.
Port Charlotte's loss dropped their record down to 23-6. As for St. Petersburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season.
Port Charlotte does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Petersburg, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-52 win against Countryside on the 20th.
