Softball Recap: Marcos De Niza Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Marcos de Niza is still undefeated this season after their contest against Thunderbird on Thursday, but Thunderbird came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Padres came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Titans. This was payback for the Padres, who suffered a 13-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leila Rodriguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Alaina Tavena was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Franco, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Marcos de Niza pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Thunderbird, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.

Looking ahead, Marcos de Niza will venture away from home to challenge Moon Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Padres are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Thunderbird, they will be playing at home against Paradise Honors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
