Volleyball Recap: Mattoon Triumphs

The Mattoon Greenwave were able to grind out a solid victory over the Robinson Maroons on Monday, taking the game 2-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Greenwave.

Mattoon not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Robinson between 17 and 18 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-18.

Brooke Jobe was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had eight digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (three).

Jobe wasn't the only good servers: Mattoon was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matches.

The win got Mattoon back to even at 15-15. As for Robinson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.

Looking ahead, Mattoon will be playing at home against Mt. Zion at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Robinson, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Lawrenceville on the 7th.
