The San Marino Titans will square off against the Cathedral Phantoms at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. San Marino is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
San Marino proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Verdugo Hills. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Titans have posted since April 18, 2024.
The result came thanks to JJ Wilson's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Parker Wilson, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he's hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cathedral). They were the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over Alhambra on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Phantoms with their most commanding win of the season.
J.D. Rojo looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Victor Galvez was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Jacob Lopez was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.
Cathedral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
San Marino's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs over those games. As for Cathedral, their record is now 3-1.
San Marino might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Cathedral in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Can San Marino avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
