Basketball Game Preview: Moundridge Wildcats vs. Hillsboro Trojans

Moundridge has won 16 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Hillsboro has won 16 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Moundridge Wildcats will welcome the Hillsboro Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Moundridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season.

Moundridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 64-26 victory over Ell-Saline. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Moundridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mackie Conkling led the charge by shooting 60% from the field en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. What's more, Conkling posted three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cammi Unruh, who went 5-for-6 on her way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Hillsboro was able to grind out a solid victory over Sacred Heart on Friday, taking the game 34-23. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Knights are ranked 161st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hillsboro has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.7 points on average over those games. Moundridge's win bumped their record up to 19-2.

Moundridge beat Hillsboro 42-33 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Moundridge repeat their success, or does Hillsboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
