Basketball Recap: Shawnee Comes Up Short

Shawnee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wapakoneta Redskins. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redskins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Shawnee lost, don't look at Kamryn Morris. Despite the final result, she posted eight points in addition to five assists and three steals. Ava Gadson was another key player, going 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Shawnee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Shawnee's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Wapakoneta, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 6-11.

Shawnee will take on Crestview at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crestview will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Shawnee surely won't give up without a fight. Wapakoneta has already played their next game, a 43-33 defeat against Coldwater on the 25th.
