Baseball Recap: Cissna Park Takes a Loss

Cissna Park extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-17 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Watseka Warriors. The Timberwolves were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Watseka, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.

For Watseka's part, Mason Galyen made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Galyen has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Watseka's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-12 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Watseka got a massive performance out of Quinn Starkey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The Warriors are undefeated when Starkey posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-13 otherwise. James Newell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Cissna Park will host Attica at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watseka, they will venture away from home to challenge Momence at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Momence Athletics have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
