Basketball Recap: Westran Starts Season with Victory at Home

Westran gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They really took it to the Brookfield Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up an 81-54 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Leading Westran to victory were Jordan Black and Cruze Haynes. Black shot 44% from the field on his way to 23 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Haynes went 9-for-14 to rack up 21 points and six boards. What's more, Haynes also posted a 64% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Jackson Land, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Westran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 20 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Westran is headed away from home for the first time to take on South Shelby at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brookfield, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Canton at 7:30 p.m. on December 2.
