Baseball Recap: Sehome Drops Season-High Score on Squalicum

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sehome). They blew past the Squalicum Storm 11-1 on Thursday. The Mariners have beaten the Storm the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Storm has come to flipping the script.

Jad Geiger and Hudson Neff made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Geiger pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Neff didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Geiger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Geiger scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Neff scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Neff also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Gunnar Tweit and Sonny Myers did most of the damage at the plate: Tweit went 2-for-5 with three RBI, while Myers scored a run while going 1-for-3. That hit marked the first that Myers got this season.

Sehome kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win got Sehome back to even at 4-4. As for Squalicum, their loss was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-8.

Sehome and Squalicum could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings. The Mariners will challenge WF West at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (138 vs. 2). Meanwhile, Squalicum (ranked 246th) will meet Ferndale (ranked 114th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
