Baseball Recap: River Islands Has No Trouble Against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Turlock Christian, River Islands was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Aspire Langston Hughes Academy Titans a 25-0 shutout. That looming 25-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Riptide yet this season.

Matthew Echivarre and Michael Figueroa did most of the damage at the plate: Echivarre scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Figueroa scored two runs and stole a base off of a hit. Those four runs gave Echivarre a new career-high. Noah Uribe was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

River Islands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

With the victory, River Islands broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5. As for Aspire Langston Hughes Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, River Islands will head out to take on Elliot Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Riptide are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. Aspire Langston Hughes Academy will be paying especially close attention to River Islands' matchup: after River Islands faces off against Elliot Christian, they'll take on Aspire Langston Hughes Academy again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
