Basketball Recap: Sonora Snags Eighth Win in Last Ten Games

Sonora won the last time they faced Hilmar and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Sonora Wildcats snuck past the Hilmar Yellowjackets with a 55-50 victory. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 969th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sonora's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Wright, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 15 points. Wright is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Jonathan Curran was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 14 points.

Sonora smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Hilmar's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Solorio, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Christian Peebles, who posted eight points and five boards.

Sonora is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for Hilmar, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Sonora will be playing in front of their home fans against Hughson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sonora is facing Hughson at the right time seeing as Hughson is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Hilmar, they will venture away from home to square off against Orestimba at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Orestimba has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
