Softball Game Preview: New Athens Yellow Jackets vs. Trico Pioneers

The New Athens Yellow Jackets will take on the Trico Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. New Athens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

New Athens lost 11-3 to Marissa/Coulterville on Tuesday.

Jamie Wilson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Aubrey Albers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Trico waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Indians. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

DuQuoin's batters probably weren't too happy with Zoe Bennett, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (she gave up zero walks).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hayleigh Franklin, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Lilly Sickling also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Trico's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for New Athens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
