Baseball Recap: Kentwood Takes a Loss

Kentwood extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-9. They fell 4-0 to the Kennedy Catholic Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Alex Alstrom got Kentwood off to a strong start despite the final result, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Kentwood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Leininger, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.

As for Kennedy Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Kennedy Catholic's side, not much got past Brayden Seiber, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Kentwood off the board. Seiber has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Dale, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dante Saladino, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Kentwood will face off against Hazen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kennedy Catholic, they will square off against Eastside Catholic at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
