Baseball Recap: Defiance Victorious

Defiance won the last time they faced Fairview and things went their way on Monday too. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Apaches by a score of 9-4.

Garyson Smiddy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Cohen Stockman was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Logan Hutcheson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Defiance was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairview only posted a batting average of .179.

Defiance's win bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Fairview, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Defiance will face off against Whitmer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Fairview, they will challenge Montpelier at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Locomotives' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Apaches' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
