Basketball Recap: Shadow Mountain Comes Up Short

Shadow Mountain lost against Lake Havasu back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Matadors lost 40-18 to the Knights.

When it comes to explaining why Shadow Mountain lost, don't look at Shonnie Holland. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with nine boards and 11 blocks. Holland has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played.

Lake Havasu was led to victory by Gabby Nieblas and Vivian Velazquez. Nieblas almost dropped a double-double with ten boards and nine steals, while Velazquez posted 11 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Nieblas is now averaging an impressive 2.8 steals per game. Another player making a difference was McKinsey Dugan, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 11 points and six steals.

Shadow Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Lake Havasu, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Shadow Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-21 defeat against Estrella Foothills on the 15th. As for Lake Havasu, they have also already played their next game, a 53-29 loss against Verrado on the 15th.
