Baseball Recap: Seneca Beats De Soto for Their Third Straight Victory

Seneca extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 6-2 in the process. They skirted past the De Soto Pirates 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since May 23, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Gage Wall, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Sawyer Swiggum was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for De Soto, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 3.14 runs.

On De Soto's side, Finn Wrobel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Wrobel has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season.

In other batting news, Harris Krueger and Wills Davis stepped up to the plate in a big way. Krueger went 3-for-4 with one run and one double, while Davis went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Krueger has hit this season.

Coming up, Seneca will challenge Viroqua at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for De Soto, they will take on Weston at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
