Football Recap: Mathis Takes a Loss

If Mathis was feeling good fresh off their 22-0 takedown of Palacios last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates were dealt a 41-6 loss at the hands of the Orange Grove Bulldogs on Friday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Mathis' defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Orange Grove, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Mathis will be playing at home against Aransas Pass at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.56 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Orange Grove, they will head out on the road to square off against London at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
