Football Recap: Lafayette Jefferson Takes Down Mccutcheon in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lafayette Jefferson walked away with it. Their defense stepped up to hand the McCutcheon Mavericks a 26-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Bronchos have won eight matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lafayette Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marquis Adkins, who rushed for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Adkins has posted since back in October of 2024. Antonio White did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.

Lafayette Jefferson's run defense was locked in: McCutcheon could only muster 0.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Ka'Vion Campbell-Walker for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lafayette Jefferson's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.1.

Lafayette Jefferson's defense didn't let Karson Smith, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Aaden Aytch was especially locked on to McCutcheon's QB and sacked him 2.5 times. Aytch is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Another thorn in McCutcheon's side was Paul Walgamuth, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles.

Lafayette Jefferson pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points on average over those games. As for McCutcheon, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, Lafayette Jefferson will take on Kokomo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McCutcheon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
