Basketball Recap: Roanoke Catholic Takes a Loss

Roanoke Catholic and North Cross squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Roanoke Catholic had to settle for second. They came up short against the North Cross Raiders, falling 76-54. The Celtics have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Despite the loss, Roanoke Catholic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mason Williams went 8-for-17 to rack up 23 points. That's the most points Williams has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Gary S. Walker, who put up seven points.

Jesiah Hines was his usual excellent self, going 12-for-15 en route to 29 points along with six steals and five assists for North Cross. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Robinson, who went 9-for-16 on his way to 21 points and eight boards.

Roanoke Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for North Cross, they pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Roanoke Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Cross, they have already played their next matchup, a 75-56 loss against Miller School of Albemarle on the 21st.
