Preview: Northeastern Knights vs. Blue River Valley Vikings
The Northeastern Knights will head out on the road to take on the Blue River Valley Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northeastern is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
Northeastern stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They blew past Anderson 61-31 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Northeastern has posted since December 16, 2023.
Northeastern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cami Angi, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Angi has scored all season. Addisen Mastriano was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Blue River Valley waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They secured a 43-37 W over Cambridge City Lincoln.
Blue River Valley can attribute much of their success to Maciah Driskill, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks, and Ella Schmidt, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Driskill is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.
Northeastern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Blue River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's match: Northeastern have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 39.3% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Blue River Valley, though, as they've only made 35.5% of their threes per game this season. Given Northeastern's sizeable advantage in that area, Blue River Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northeastern strolled past Blue River Valley when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 55-41. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Blue River Valley's Maci Chamberlin, who scored 23 points. Now that she won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Northeastern to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
