Softball Recap: Centerville Beats Fairmont for Their Fourth Straight Win

Centerville barely beat Fairmont the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Elks put the hurt on the Firebirds with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. Considering the Elks have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Caitlyn Belcher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Alyssa Hillberg and Shelby Cotterman did most of the damage at the plate: Hillberg went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Cotterman went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Lalia Mejia was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Centerville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairmont only posted an OBP of .100.

The victory (which was Centerville's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Fairmont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Centerville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Firebirds: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
