Softball Recap: GRACE Christian Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

GRACE Christian waltzed into their match on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They blew past the Cary Academy Chargers 14-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-2 back in March.

Addison Vercellino made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caitlin Barry was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ellie McDowell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

GRACE Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in 12 consecutive games.

GRACE Christian pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Cary Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

GRACE Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cary Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Providence Day at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Providence Day's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Cary Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
