Basketball Recap: Mead Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Mead suffered their biggest defeat since January 4th on Tuesday. They came up short against the Horizon Hawks, falling 82-58. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mavericks of the 62-55 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2021.

Matthew Angelo and George Hubert certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Angelo went 7 of 14 on his way to 20 points, while Hubert went 6 for 13 en route to 17 points. Angelo's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Max Windhorst was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.

Horizon found their leader in sophomore Noah Sokolowski, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sokolowski has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Northrup, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Mead's defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-7. As for Horizon, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mead will square off against Longmont at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mead knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Longmont likes a good challenge. As for Horizon, they will face off against Fairview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Horizon has won six straight at home dating back to last season, while Fairview won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
