Baseball Recap: Great Bend Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Great Bend waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They had just enough and edged out the Junction City Bluejays 5-3. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bluejays, too.

Great Bend got a great performance from Hunter Herrman as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Herrman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Great Bend saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daxton Minton, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Great Bend hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matches.

Great Bend's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Junction City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Great Bend wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-0 loss against McPherson on the 9th. Junction City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
