Recap: Wakpala Sioux vs. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves
It was a good run, but the Wakpala Sioux unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, falling 85-53. Wakpala was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cheyenne-Eagle Butte apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dayson Kennedy out in front who scored 19 points. Kennedy is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Damien Clown, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Wakpala's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
Wakpala will look to defend their home court on Monday against North Central at 7:45 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Dakota (North Central is ranked 126th, while Wakpala is ranked 121st). As for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Francis Indian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cheyenne-Eagle Butte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
