Greenville has won nine straight games at home, while Marissa/Coulterville has won nine straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Comets will be taking part in a tournament against the Meteors at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Greenville 2.4, Marissa/Coulterville 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Greenville was able to grind out a solid victory over Mulberry Grove, taking the game 5-2.
Payton White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Haylee Clark was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Zoee Englert was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Marissa/Coulterville beat New Athens 12-7 on Thursday.
Molly Kane looked comfortable as she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March.
At the plate, Kennedy Trieb was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Ranck, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Marissa/Coulterville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Marissa/Coulterville is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Greenville, their victory bumped their record up to 20-7-1.
