Baseball Recap: Western Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against IMG Academy, Western was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They never let the Palmetto Tigers get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Palmetto's batters probably weren't too happy with Jimmy Huard, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 17 Ks (he gave up zero walks). Those 17 strikeouts gave Huard a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Miguel Tapia, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Everett Suazo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Tapia wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Western is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Western's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Palmetto, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

Western will square off against Westminster Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Palmetto, they will host Southeast at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
