Basketball Preview: Schaeffer Academy Lions vs. Southland Rebels
Schaeffer Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Southland Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Schaeffer Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Even though Schaeffer Academy has not done well against the Athletics recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Schaeffer Academy took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-21 win over the Athletics.
Schaeffer Academy relied on the efforts of Gabriella Buehler, who scored 14 points along with three steals, and Lillian Morrisey, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Morrisey hasn't dropped below three blocks for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Blythe Morgan, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Southland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell to Kingsland 65-60. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southland in their matchups with the Knights: they've now lost nine in a row.
Schaeffer Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. As for Southland, they dropped their record down to 4-16 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Schaeffer Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rebels in their previous meeting back in January, sneaking past 38-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Schaeffer Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
