The GV Christian Guardians are taking a road trip to take on the Moapa Valley Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
Last Thursday, GV Christian came up short against White Pine and fell 42-29. The Guardians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, GV Christian had strong showings from Samantha Charron, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards, and Alyssa Bound, who posted five points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That was a full 51.7% of GV Christian's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Leslie McCoy also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moapa Valley). They breezed by Cristo Rey St. Viator to the tune of 70-20 on Friday. With the Pirates ahead 41-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
GV Christian better keep an eye on Claire Cox. She was instrumental in Moapa Valley's win, going 10 for 16 on her way to 24 points and seven steals. Cox's evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Bekah Jensen was another key player, going 7 of 9 en route to 15 points and five steals.
Moapa Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.
Moapa Valley has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points per game. As for GV Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: GV Christian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Moapa Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.4 boards.
