Baseball Recap: Newbury Park Takes a Loss

Newbury Park dropped their record down to 11-12 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Palm Desert Aztecs by a score of 4-2. The Panthers were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Aztecs' pitcher proved too tough.

Newbury Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Richter, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Palm Desert, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

On Palm Desert's side, Tyler Nicolay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. Nicolay has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Niko Guarino, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will face off against Oaks Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Palm Desert, they will take on Shadow Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
