Preview: Plainfield East Bengals vs. Romeoville Spartans
Plainfield East and Romeoville are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Plainfield East Bengals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Romeoville Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Plainfield East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 320th, while Romeoville is ranked 39th).
Plainfield East struggled with threes on Tuesday (Joliet West had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Plainfield East was dealt a 83-51 loss at the hands of Joliet West. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Plainfield East in their matchups with Joliet West: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Plainfield East got a solid performance out of Lexi Sepulveda, who scored 31 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That was a full 60.8% of Plainfield East's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Emma Rodgers, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Romeoville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 77-47 victory over Joliet Central at home. Romeoville is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 11 straight.
Plainfield East has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 15 of their last 19 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season. As for Romeoville, they pushed their record up to 26-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
