Recap: Putnam County War Eagles vs. Thomson Bulldogs
After a string of eight wins, the Putnam County War Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 60-52 to Thomson. While losing is never fun, Putnam County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Thomson is ranked 15th).
Despite the defeat, Putnam County had strong showings from Kamyra Aikens, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Journey Waller, who scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. Waller has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Eriyanna Little was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Jada Kendrick was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 17 rebounds for Thomson. Kendrick continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty?Leishiah Latimore, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Putnam County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3. As for Thomson, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Putnam County will head out on the road to take on Josey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Josey is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Thomson, they will be playing at home against Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Butler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday.
