Softball Recap: Century Beats Egyptian for Their Third Straight Victory

Century had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Egyptian Pharaohs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 1-0 last Tuesday.

Allie Sauerbrunn was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with seven RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Jaylee Vanmeter was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs.

Century always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .579 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Century's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Egyptian, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Century will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Agape Christian at 4:30 p.m. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Centurions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Egyptian, they will be playing at home against Pope County at 4:30 p.m. on the 2nd.
