Basketball Recap: Mattie Gilliam's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fletcher over Atlantic Coast

If Fletcher was riding high fresh off their 67-23 takedown of Wolfson last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fletcher Senators fell to the Atlantic Coast Stingrays 43-38. The loss continues a trend for the Senators in their matchups with the Stingrays: they've now lost eight in a row.

Fletcher's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mattie Gilliam, who posted six points in addition to nine rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Gilliam has posted since back in November of 2023. Mikiah Sloan was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atlantic Coast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mia Chandler, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Johnson, who had eight points.

Fletcher's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Atlantic Coast, their record is now 8-4.

Fletcher didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-25 victory against Westside on the 17th. Atlantic Coast has also already played their next matchup, a 54-17 defeat against Ribault on the 15th.
