Recap: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Bunker Hill Bears
The Newton-Conover Red Devils''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Bunker Hill, falling 48-21. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Newton-Conover in their matchups with Bunker Hill: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Lineberger, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. Lineberger is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last eight games he's played.
Jason Willis jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bunker Hill, rushing for 192 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Willis jr is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Mccleave, who picked up 138 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Newton-Conover's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Hickory and 9-0 West Henderson (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.9% over those games). As for Bunker Hill, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton-Conover will face off against Maiden at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. As for Bunker Hill, they will head out on the road to face off against Bandys at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Bandys is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
