Basketball Game Preview: Eagle Valley Devils vs. Falcon Falcons

The Eagle Valley Devils will challenge the Falcon Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Eagle Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Falcon likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, Eagle Valley didn't have too much trouble with Roaring Fork as they won 77-63.

It was another big night for Brian Fontana, who on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Parker Newbanks, who en route to 17 points.

Fontana wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Eagle Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They racked up seven more assists than Roaring Fork's also-impressive total of 11.

Falcon has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 66-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mesa Ridge on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 23rd).

Eagle Valley will have to contain Jeremiah Potts as he made an impact in Falcon's last game. He to rack up 23 points and three steals. Tyler Cox was another key player, on his way to 12 points and eight boards.

Eagle Valley has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.1 points over those games. Falcon's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Eagle Valley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Falcon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.7 boards.
