Baseball Recap: Nine Straight Home Wins for Homestead

Homestead proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Homestead got a great performance from Mason Gutmann as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Gutmann has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Homestead secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Connor Diehm, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Homestead's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Snider, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.

Homestead will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair will be back at it again later today.
