Baseball Game Preview: DeLand Bulldogs vs. Cardinal Newman Crusaders

The DeLand Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinal Newman Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

DeLand came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against St. Johns Country Day, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their undefeated season alive. They came out on top against Western by a score of 6-2. Six seems to be a good number for the Crusaders as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Max Gonzalez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Finn Duran was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Carl Calixte also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Cardinal Newman's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for DeLand, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
