Baseball Game Preview: Monarch Coyotes vs. Erie Tigers

Monarch is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will welcome the Erie Tigers at 4:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Monarch came up short against Bend and fell 7-4. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Blake Thompson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Preston Hutchings was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Erie came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 4-1. The four-run effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Austin Sieckmann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor McMaster, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ronin Ward, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Erie pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monarch, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Monarch took their victory against Erie in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2. Will Monarch repeat their success, or does Erie has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
