Preview: Fort Sumner/House vs. Logan Longhorns
The Fort Sumner/House will head out on the road to face off against the Logan Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Fort Sumner/House is ranked fourth, while Logan is ranked eighth).
Fort Sumner/House fell victim to Melrose's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Buffaloes on the road and fell 50-0. Having soared to a lofty 34 points in the game before, Fort Sumner/House couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Logan put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 50-12 win over Tatum at home. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Logan's zero-point performance the matchup before.
Brock Burns had a dynamite game for Logan, rushing for 106 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 206 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Aydin Kotara, who picked up 132 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Tatum to a paltry 213 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Logan's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out 12 times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with four guys contributing.
Fort Sumner/House's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-2. As for Logan, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Fort Sumner/House came up short against Logan when the teams last played on October 6th, falling 38-34. Can Fort Sumner/House avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
