Softball Recap: South Sumter Falls Short of the Villages Charter in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact South Sumter can now relate to. They lost 7-0 to The Villages Charter Buffalo on Tuesday. The shutout was out of character for the Raiders seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

South Sumter got a good showing from Hailey Hickman, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Hickman hasn't allowed a single earned run since back in February.

On the hitting side, South Sumter saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Shepherd, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

South Sumter's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for The Villages Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season.

South Sumter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for The Villages Charter, they will square off against Eustis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Buffalo surely won't give up without a fight.
